Instructional Design Using the Dick and Carey Systems Approach

It is a systematic and comprehensive method of designing instruction. It is also known as system approach model. It provides a cohesive and effective tool in developing an organized unit of instructions. In this model instructions breaks into smaller components. The main goal of this model is to improve instructor. It runs on the basis of interconnected action and principles which have common goals. The 10 steps of this model is as shown below:

Step-1: The first step is to specify objectives to identify learners' expectation. It clarify the goals and objectives of educations.

Step-2: In this step it specifies the whole process associated with the total instructional process by effective analysis. It basically helps to specify the learning gaps of the learners.

Step-3: In this steps characteristic of learner's behavior is seen before starting the instructions. It helps to access the characteristics of target population. The main objective of this step is to access the nature of previous Knowledge, attitude of learners and the qualities of academic organization.

Step 4: This step initiates to write those issues which are needed to specify the learner's efficacy as per the conditional aspects. It set the condition and criteria of performance.

Step 5: This step helps to develop the assessment tool as per the criterion consideration. It assimilates criterion and performance objectives.

Step 6: In this step instructional strategies are developed. It develops some strategies to regulate learners motivations. It defines activities based on learners.

Step 7: In the seventh step it select the relevant learning materials as per the learners behaviors and parameters of instruction strategies.

Step 8: To identify the progress rate of instructions it initiates to develop formative evaluation. It provides decision regarding the continuous changes of learner's behaviors.

Step 9: In this step it develops summative evaluation techniques for analyzing the corresponding outcome of instructional transaction.

Step 10: this is last step which helps to modify the whole instructional process as per the defined criterion of the model.

It consists of 6 phases which include design, analysis, development, formative assessment, revision and summative evaluation.
